Editing
Every great writer needs a great editor. That's where I come in.

I offer proofreading, copy editing, or developmental editing based on your specific needs. Below you'll find descriptions of the different levels of editing I offer. If you're not sure which one you need, I also offer a free sample edit and can help you decide which level is best for your writing.
Developmental Editing:
Developmental editing is typically the first step in editing. It's all about the big picture of your work. It doesn't focus on sentence-level errors like spelling and punctuation. I will edit for:
Structure
Content
Plot
Character development
Dialogue
Tone
Target audience

Copy Editing:
Copy editing is about readability. It focuses on both the small details and the larger picture of your work. I will query word choices, sentence structure, and awkward passages. If you'd like, I can also offer solutions. I will do this all while maintaining your style and voice. I will edit for:
Spelling
Grammar
Typos
Punctuation errors
Syntax
Repetition
Consistency
Formatting
Factually incorrect statements
Word usage
Sentence structure
Awkward or wordy passages

Proofreading:
Proofreading is the last step before publishing. It focuses on the small details of your work. By the time your writing reaches this step, all rewrites are complete. This level of editing helps ensure your final product is free of errors. I will edit for:
Spelling
Grammar
Typos
Punctuation
Syntax
Formatting

Free Sample Edit:
If you'd like help deciding what level of editing you need, I can review/edit a sample of your work for free. Even if I do a sample edit, you are under no obligation to hire me as your editor.
